Malta continues to ease Covid-19 restrictions for residents and travellers wanting to visit the country.

As from today, the quarantine period for fully vaccinated primary contacts will be reduced from seven to five days, as long as a negative test result is produced after the fifth day.

In addition, the Government plans from the 7th of March, that no quarantine will be required for fully vaccinated primary contacts. The quarantine period for individuals testing positive, who are in possession of a valid vaccination certificate, will be reduced to seven days if a negative test result is produced after the 7th day.

A week later on the 14th of March 2022, the Maltese Government will remove the mandatory requirement to wear face masks in public places outside. Attending mass events and enclosed areas, masks will still be required.

Travellers coming to Malta, also benefit from an increase in the number of vaccination certificates that are now recognised by the Maltese authorities. To date, in addition to its own, Malta recognises 56 vaccination certificates from around the world. Some recently added certificates include: The Government of India – Final Certificate for COVID-19 Vaccination; The Government of Pakistan Immunisation Certificate for COVID-19; and The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan COVID-19 Vaccination Certification.

Travellers in possession of a valid vaccination certificate, arriving from countries on the red list, are not required to undergo mandatory quarantine. The current list of valid vaccination certificates can be viewed here.

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Malta currently has administered over 1,188,261 vaccination doses of which 333,417 were booster doses. 93.7% of the entire adult population have now received the first primary course and 77% of adults 18 years and over have received the additional booster dose.
